I chose the Australian Cattle Dog as outcross partner for the beagle. And in particular I chose a cattle dog bred by me, with emphasis on athletism, temper and health. My stud is a health tested dog of very correct original breed type, no modern mollosoid abomination. He has correct body proportions, correct length of leg and correct angulations. He can compensate for the overtype in Yoshimi, he has tight lips and no exaggerations whatsoever.

Further more I know his ancestry, siblings and half siblings and have quite a good idea what behavioural traits he might bring to this breeding.

In doing an outcross outside the hound group additionally to the benefits in terms of moderation I will get more different alleles into the offspring than if I had chosen I closely related breed. I look forward for very heterozygous offspring with decreased risk for complex diseases.

And last but not least given the controversial topic outcrossing is in todays purebred dog fancy I chose my own dog to not put a fellow breeder in an awkward position. This outcross project is my idea and every good or bad that will come of it is my responsibility and lays on my shoulders.
